Flame fireplace uses a technique that I've come to love: joining together large slabs of clay to make an even
larger background "canvas" (in this case 7'W x 5'H) and then sculpting the design onto the background. For me it
is an additional delight to figure out how to cut the background into an appealing tile design that enhances the
overall flame design. In effect, there are two designs here: the flames shooting out of the fireplace and the tile
cuts.
